On film negative and Hi Definition (D5) masters, the image may not be framed in exactly the same way as it appears on the preview clips. There may be more image area on the top, bottom, and sides of the film element. For HiDefinition, the image will appear in a "letterbox" format with more image area on both sides of the frame.

Preview clips have been transferred from from the original film at various speeds, and the transfer speed is noted in the clip notes. Since film runs at 24 frames per second (fps), it is important to note the transfer speed, and to convert that information to 24 fps for film uses.

Occasionally frames from other clips may appear at the head or tail of a preview clip. This does not mean that the "stray" clip is included in the license of the clip you are previewing. If you do accidentally end up with frames from a different clip in a master, the other frames are not licensed for use.

The length of a shot in a master may vary slightly from what you see in a preview clip.
